LMAO!!!.... Master trainer.... that's a great title... can't went till I'm a master trainer.... I think I will sign up.. drop 5-10 g's with one of those 12 week programs to become one...I think they even through in a decoy training course too... I'll be ready in no time to work the SchH National's and FR selectif.

Those "trainer academies" should be shut down.... they produce some serious hacks.

Hey Matt,

Still lurking from time to time.

Those pups should be very very nice..... Fat Louie FR III and Cyn FR I are two excellent dogs. If you want any video of them doing SchH work I will post them up.

Good Luck with your pick. Are you going to do ring with the pup or something else?

I miss Steph....Super knowledgable....Tell Steph I said hello and that the yankees suck.

Sorry to get off topic..... commence with the master trainer discussion. Where are they all? I know there are few on here or a couple in training to become a MASTER TRAINER.... please fill us in on the path to enlightenment.

Mike,

I've seen the vids on Steph's site.  Pretty cool.  If the pup's as good as I think it will be, I'm not going to settle for just ONE area to compete in.  Going to try to do it all (FR, MR, and Schutzhund); why the heck not?!

I'm bringing down a fresh, leather Yankees hat for Steph; her old one was DONE!

We are actually taking TWO pups; our pick and one we are raising until it is 5 months or so and ships to Finland.  The good thing is that I get to take my pick between the two.

Yeah, every once in a while I see someone who calls themself a "Master Trainer" and just wondered who the hell is offering these "degrees" in "Mastertrainery"?  If you can certify someone as a "Master Trainer" then are you a "Grandmaster Trainer"?  "Supermaster Trainer"?  What do you call them?

I'm going with Master of Bullshit

I train at Tarheel Canine guys, and no one has named theirselves Master Trainer. They do offer ALOT of different classes and at reasonable costs I am told.

I don't put a lot of stock in schools for dog trainers as I think dog training is both a science AND an art.  I don't think the schools could really prepare you for the variety of dogs you will come into contact with.  Admittedly, I know nothing about the Tom Rose school.  I think the only type of formal training/schooling that I give credit to would be narc/bomb training schools.

I usually recommend offering up your body to the training gods as a decoy and learning from there.  I have had the opportunity to train with some of the absolute WORST dog trainers out there (from which I learned a lot), some pretty mediocre ones, and some of the very best (Brian Mowry, Felix Sunga and Mike Ellis).  I have had to pay my dues with each trainer, especially Mike's dogs, who convinced me to buy gauntlets for my arms and shin/knee pads as well.

I also advise seeing as many trainers as possible that train in a variety of ways.  I train VASTLY different now compared to how I used to train; if only I knew then what I know now.

Hey Matt good luck with your pup I really like Fat Louie STeph stoped in Amarillo Texas on her way to Cali for a Mondio Ring Trial were I had decoyed and she did the Dog in White for the level II very nice dog after the trial she let me work the dog with the basket and escort 2 of my fav exercises to decoy, really really like him and he aint too bad looking for a Mali, I am looking at a pic that was sent to me all framed out where he did the face attack with accesories, I remember getting the air knocked out of me slightly when he center punched through my barage, again nice dog.
  Mati  I have thought about doing the Tom Rose thing as well so I  asked a few who have been some liked it but most thought it was a waste.  Best bet is to do like Matt G and train with as many different trainers as possible be open minded and a sponge,  I have been fortunate enough to train with some that I consider top trainers in the country, Mainly with Charlie Barthomew and then some others that may not be as well known publicly but still just as good and/or better in some aspects.
