  • There is pointer behind some of the leclerc stuff...as well as florida cur and everything else...all the pointers I have worked with down here are short haired though but that doesnt mean there are not some other dogs with longer hairlength in the mix.  Go to a pointer website and tell me you don't see that phenotype or traits from it pop up in some of these performance bred dogs. From what I heard they added the bird dogs to increase nose (scent) and wind. Just some additional comments for the thread.

  • I don't doubt there may well be a little pinch of hound in many strains of bulldog.... but proving it would be a toughie however....

  • My male Hank bred to Art Parker's Dottie and produced Hairy-It .She was the only pup in the litter to live .The mother stomped the rest of them when some people went up to the nursing pen,so we dont know what the other pups were like.It is the only time Hank was bred so we don't who has the geen. All Hanks brothers and sisters produced litters and there hasn't been a long hair ,not ruling out it could be him.Art kept Hairy-It she became Marys dog and she earns her stay .You should see her on a hog.Well we all know what happened down there so we dont even know where she is right now. I have a couple of pictures of her catching ,but I cant figure out how to post pictures here.

  • Hey Andreas,

The coats on the dogs that live outside definately do thicken-up a lot during the cold months.... so I wouldn't worry if your girl's coat is quite thick at this time of year.... and she definately doesn't look like one of those throwback "long-haired" ABs.

Apart from "long hair" there does seem to be quite a lot of variation in the coats of bulldogs.... some just have thicker fur than others.
